Bundles are your NPD: the AOV playbook
How thematic bundles create newness without new products and walk a £12 basket up to a £90 routine.
The platform where 75%+ of buyers are net-new to brands is not a clearance channel. Here is how premium brands trade on TikTok Shop at full price, protect their retailers and still win.
Every premium brand we speak to raises the same two objections. First, TikTok Shop looks like a discount environment, and years of brand equity can be burned in a quarter of flash sales. Second, the retail partners who built the business, the department stores and the beauty halls, will not tolerate a channel that undercuts them.
Both concerns are legitimate. Both are solvable. The brands getting this right, and the L'Oréal and Unilever portfolios are on TikTok Shop for a reason, are not discounting their way in. They are trading on value, and they are treating the platform as what the data says it is: an acquisition engine. More than 75% of TikTok Shop buyers are net-new to the brands they buy from, and TikTok viewers are 2.5x more likely to search for a brand after seeing it there than after other social platforms. That demand does not stay in-app. It flows to your DTC site and to your retailers too.
Brand equity is a pricing asset. Constant discounting devalues the brand and trains the audience to wait, and once an audience has been trained to wait, every full-price week becomes a quiet week. Premium brands are right to refuse that trade.
Channel conflict is just as real. If TikTok Shop sells below the price your retail partners hold, you have not opened a channel, you have started a price war with your own stockists. The fix is structural, not cosmetic: a pricing architecture where TikTok Shop matches DTC and retail, and where the in-platform reason to buy is built from value rather than price cuts. Run that way, the channel generates demand your retailers capture a share of, instead of demand it steals from them.
The pricing architecture we run for premium accounts through our TikTok Shop management service rests on four principles.
Everyday pricing matches your DTC site and your retail partners, and never goes below retail. TikTok Shop is a shop window, not an outlet rail.
If the price is the same everywhere, why buy here? The answer is exclusives: gifts with purchase, TikTok Shop-only bundles and editions, value the customer cannot get anywhere else. The reason to buy is added value, not a lower number.
The first price the audience sees becomes the price they expect to pay. Launch at RRP and earn trial through content, creator volume and added value, with a welcome voucher and a launch gift with purchase doing the introductory work. Then hold the line: no deals on hero SKUs for the first eight to twelve weeks beyond GWP. The discipline of the first quarter sets the pricing expectations of every quarter after it.
No promotion goes live on instinct. Every offer is modelled to a target contribution margin before it runs, calculating the deepest viable mechanic and the uplift required to justify it. Promotions become engineering, not panic.
There is a conversion hierarchy on TikTok Shop, and every rung down it costs more brand equity than the last.
The proof that this hierarchy converts came from a L'Oréal launch we ran for Mugler. The single biggest GMV lift of the entire LIVE was not a flash sale, not a push notification, not a new SKU. It was a bundle, built from the existing range, carried by a trusted creator. We wrote up the wider playbook in bundles are your NPD.
Most beauty LIVE wins on noise, novelty and chaos. A premium brand should not try to out-shout that room, because it can win on trust, clarity and professional proof instead. Calm, expert hosting. A set that looks like your brand world rather than a market stall. Solution-led storytelling and LIVE-exclusive routines instead of a countdown clock every four minutes. Authority is perceived value, and composed hosts with genuine reasons to buy convert harder than frantic ones.
Urgency still matters, but there is a difference between real urgency and desperate urgency. Real urgency is a genuine stock position, a LIVE-only bundle, a host reveal moment. Desperate urgency is phantom stock, permanent countdowns and a discount in every segment. Real urgency converts. Desperate urgency damages. Our TikTok LIVE team builds premium formats on exactly this doctrine, with trained hosts certified on the product before they ever front it.
Discipline needs infrastructure. For enterprise and premium accounts, that means governance built into the workflow, not bolted on afterwards.
This is the operating standard that lets groups like L'Oréal, where we work across Showcase LIVE, digital environments and live commerce training, and Unilever, where we partner across four brands, put their names on the channel. Our launch of Vaseline's GLUTA-HYA Lip Serum shows what an enterprise-grade TikTok Shop launch looks like in practice: read the Vaseline case study, or browse the rest of our enterprise work on the work page.
Hold RRP everywhere and let exclusives, not discounts, carry the reason to buy. Build value through bundles and GWP so margin is given in product, never in price. Run LIVE as a professional broadcast that earns trust rather than a bazaar that spends it. Wrap the whole channel in governance your legal team can sign off. Do that, and TikTok Shop stops being a threat to a premium brand and becomes what it already is for the biggest beauty groups in the world: the most efficient new-customer engine in commerce, one that feeds your DTC and retail business rather than feeding on it.
