Search for a TikTok Shop agency in the UK and you will find two kinds of pages: agencies telling you they are brilliant, and listicles ranking agencies the author has never worked with. This guide is a third thing. It is the buying manual we wish every brand read before their first agency conversation, written by an agency, yes, but written to make you a sharper buyer whoever you end up hiring. It covers what the work actually is, how to separate operators from resellers, what the market charges, the UK rules your programme must respect, and the honest cases where the right answer is not to hire anyone yet.

A note on where we stand. Somerce is a UK-founded TikTok Shop agency. TikTok Shop is all we do, and the proof points threaded through this guide, the £100m+ GMV, the 80+ brands, the record LIVE, are ours. Where this guide gives an opinion, it is our opinion, earned on live accounts. We have flagged it as such throughout.

1. What a TikTok Shop agency actually does

TikTok Shop is not a marketing channel with a checkout bolted on. It is a trading channel: a shop that happens to live inside an entertainment platform. Running one well is really six jobs, and the first thing to understand about any agency is which of the six it genuinely does, as opposed to lists on its website.

TikTok LIVE shopping

Selling in real time on a broadcast, from always-on daily lives to fully produced showcase events. LIVE converts a warmed audience at the highest AOV of any format on the platform, and it is the discipline where infrastructure separates agencies fastest. See our TikTok LIVE service and the LIVE case studies behind it.

Affiliate & creator management

Recruiting, briefing, sampling and retaining a community of creators who post shoppable content every day. Affiliate volume is the engine that warms the audience everything else converts, and it is an operational discipline, not a DM campaign. See our affiliates & influencers service and the affiliate case studies.

Organic content

The brand account itself: education-led videos, clipped LIVE moments and the posting rhythm that builds an audience the shop can sell to twice. Content is what makes people want to buy before the offer ever appears. See our content service and the content case studies.

Paid media

Amplification measured on GMV, not impressions: GMV Max, LIVE boosting and creative testing that turns winning organic and affiliate hooks into ad creative. Paid decides how many people walk through the door the other disciplines built. See our paid media service and the paid media case studies.

Shop operations

The unglamorous work that compounds: listing and catalogue optimisation, promotions calendars, offer and bundle architecture, forecast-led stock and sample management, and compliance. This is where good agencies quietly win and cheap ones quietly lose. See our shop management service and the shop operations case studies.

Full-service management

All five levers above run as one engine, by one team, against one number. This is the model we believe in, because the levers compound rather than add: affiliate warms, LIVE converts, content builds, paid amplifies and operations keep the machine honest. See full-service shop management and the full-service case studies.

Plenty of agencies do one of these well. A smaller number do two or three. Very few run all six as a single operation, and the difference shows up directly in GMV, because on TikTok Shop the disciplines feed each other or starve each other. That is the somerce view, and the rest of this guide will help you test it against anyone's proposal, including ours.

2. How to evaluate a TikTok Shop agency

Every agency deck looks the same at a distance: logos, arrows going up, a creator collage. Here are the six tests that actually separate operators from resellers, in the order we would apply them if we were buying.

Verified GMV, not logo walls

Ask what GMV the agency currently manages, for whom, and how the figure reconciles with TikTok Shop seller analytics. Then ask for case studies with numbers attached: revenue, orders, AOV, growth over time. A logo wall proves a meeting happened. A number proves the work did. Our own case studies lead with the figure for exactly this reason, and you should hold every agency, including us, to that standard.

Real LIVE capability

LIVE is where TikTok Shop's biggest numbers live, and it is the hardest discipline to fake. Ask how many hours the agency broadcast last month, at what GMV per hour, and with which formats. An agency that runs daily LIVE engines and produced showcase events will answer in benchmarks. An agency that subcontracts LIVE will answer in adjectives.

Owned studios

Studio infrastructure is a genuine cost, and agencies that own it price and perform differently from those improvising in meeting rooms. It is also gloriously easy to verify: ask to visit. We run purpose-built studios in London and Manchester, and a walk around a broadcast floor mid-show will tell you more about any agency than its whole website.

Host talent

The host is the conversion rate. Trained, product-certified hosts who can sell a routine rather than a discount are scarce, and an agency's answer to "who exactly will be on camera for us?" is one of the fastest quality signals available. We maintain a managed roster of 34 trained hosts through our hosts & talent practice; whoever you evaluate, insist on named people, showreels and track records, not a promise to recruit someone later.

Platform relationships

TikTok Shop moves quickly: campaign moments, category programmes, new ad products and policy changes arrive constantly. An agency that works closely with the platform hears about them early and gets support behind big moments. Ask for concrete examples of campaigns run with TikTok's involvement, and be wary of anyone who cannot name their contacts' teams.

Category depth

A beauty shop and an electronics shop are different trading problems: different content, different compliance sensitivities, different bundle logic, different LIVE formats. Ask what the agency has done in your category specifically, and what benchmarks it holds for it. Our own depth is documented across the industries we run, with beauty the category we run hardest.

Then put the tests to work on the first call. Seven questions will do most of the sorting for you: What GMV do you manage today, and for whom? Who exactly works on my account, and how senior are they? What are the deliverables per month, per discipline, in writing? How do you report, and against which metrics? What sits outside the fee: studio time, set builds, host talent, samples, ad spend? What happens in month one, and when should I honestly expect results? And do you run LIVE from your own studios with trained hosts, or subcontract it? An operator answers all seven without flinching. A reseller changes the subject to reach.

If you want to see how the UK field compares on these tests, we wrote an honest comparison in our guide to the best TikTok Shop agencies in the UK, including where competitors are strong and where we are.

3. What UK TikTok Shop agencies cost

There is no single price because there is no single scope, but the market does have a shape. UK engagements are almost always structured one of four ways, and in our experience of how the market prices, the honest ranges look like this.

Monthly retainer

A fixed fee for a defined scope: agreed LIVE hours, affiliate volumes, content output, paid workload. Across the UK market, credible retainers run from roughly £2k a month for a narrow, single-discipline scope up to £15k+ a month for a full multi-discipline trading operation with daily studio LIVE. Retainers buy guaranteed resource and predictable budgeting, and suit shops that still need building. The trade-off: a retainer pays for activity, not outcomes, so it demands written deliverables and GMV-accountable reporting.

Commission on GMV

The agency earns a percentage of the GMV it manages. Incentives align and upfront risk falls, but the model only works where there is enough existing or near-term GMV to fund a proper team; otherwise the account gets quietly under-resourced. The percentage itself varies with category margin and scope, and it matters less than the question behind it: does this deal fund the work my shop actually needs?

Hybrid

A lower base fee plus a performance commission, and the most common structure in the UK market for good reason: the base funds the always-on work that pure commission starves, and the commission keeps everyone pointed at GMV. Scrutinise the balance. A big base with token commission is a retainer in a costume; a token base with high commission carries all the under-resourcing risk of pure revenue share.

Project or launch fee

A one-off engagement: a shop launch, a campaign moment, a single showcase LIVE. Useful for testing a relationship, but TikTok Shop rewards consistency above almost everything, so a brilliant one-off with no follow-through often leaves the algorithm and the audience colder than a modest always-on programme.

Retainer £2k–£15k+per month, by scope

Whatever the model, budget separately for the costs no agency fee covers: creator samples, gift-with-purchase stock and ad spend. Think in total cost of ownership, not headline fee, and judge the total against the only number that matters: the GMV, margin and net-new customers the programme generates, minus everything you paid for it. On a compounding channel, the cheapest proposal is usually the most expensive per pound of growth, because an under-funded programme trains the channel to be small. Six months of underinvestment does not save money; it teaches the algorithm, and your audience, that your shop is a small one. We unpacked all of this, the models, the price drivers, the questions to ask and the red flags, in our full guide to what a TikTok Shop agency costs.

4. UK compliance: ASA, GDPR and honest listings

The UK is a well-regulated place to run social commerce, and that is a feature, not a bug: audiences trust the channel more because the rules have teeth. A serious agency builds compliance into the workflow rather than treating it as legal's problem. Three areas do most of the work.

Advertising disclosure under the ASA's CAP Code

The principle is simple: advertising must be obviously identifiable as advertising. When a creator is paid, gifted with conditions attached, or on commission, and the brand has a hand in the content, that content is advertising and needs a clear label, such as #ad, that viewers see up front rather than buried in a caption. Responsibility is shared between brand and creator, so your agency's briefing templates should hard-wire disclosure into every affiliate brief and LIVE run sheet. Ask to see how they do it; the good ones will show you a template within a minute. LIVE deserves its own attention here: a broadcast is advertising in real time, so hosts need to be briefed on what they can claim and how commercial relationships are flagged on air, not just what they are selling. It is one more reason trained hosts beat borrowed faces.

UK GDPR and lead data

Run a giveaway, capture emails from a LIVE, gate a lookbook behind a form, and you are processing personal data under UK GDPR. The working rules: collect only what you need, tell people plainly what you will do with it, get valid consent where consent is the basis, keep it secure, and honour access and deletion requests. Never let an agency bolt bought lists or scraped data onto your programme; the short-term reach is not worth the long-term liability.

Honest listings and substantiated claims

Product listings are advertising too. Describe products truthfully, price them clearly, keep delivery promises realistic and make sure any claim, especially in beauty and wellness, can be substantiated before it goes into a title, a LIVE script or an affiliate brief. This is also simply good trading: on a platform where comments sit under every video, an over-claimed product generates its own correction in public.

None of this is a reason to fear the channel. It is a reason to hire people who run offer mechanics inside TikTok's rules and UK promotion rules as a matter of routine, and to walk away from anyone whose growth plan depends on not being noticed.

5. The UK market opportunity in numbers

Why does any of this deserve budget? Because the behaviour underneath TikTok Shop has changed what a social platform is for. These are the figures we actually use to plan channels, drawn from our full guide to TikTok Shop statistics for 2026, where each number carries its source and date.

£300/hr daily engine · month one £600/hr daily engine · month six £4,000+/hr produced showcase events
LIVE GMV-per-hour benchmarks · somerce client data, 2025–2026 · ladder steps are illustrative, not to scale

Two practical conclusions follow. First, fund TikTok Shop from your acquisition budget, not your retention budget: the net-new figure makes it a customer acquisition channel with payback you can measure at the order level. Second, benchmark LIVE on GMV per hour rather than viewers or likes, because GMV per hour is the number that tells you whether the funnel, the offer or the host needs fixing. The strategic summary we give boards is one sentence long: the UK shopper has already moved, and the only open question is whether your category's search volume converts on your shop or a competitor's.

6. When not to hire an agency

An agency guide that never tells you not to hire an agency is a brochure. So, honestly: a meaningful share of the brands who approach us should not hire us yet, and we tell them so. You are probably in that group if any of the following is true.

If you are unsure which side of the line you sit on, score yourself first. Our free TikTok Shop readiness scorecard takes ten minutes across product, content, operations and LIVE readiness, and tells you which scope you actually need before anyone quotes you for one.

7. How somerce runs it

Everything above is how we would buy. Here, briefly and with the flag firmly planted, is how we run the channel for the brands that hire us.

One engine, one number. We approach TikTok Shop as a trading channel first. Commercial strategy, shop operations, affiliate, LIVE, content and paid media are connected into one performance model, run by one team, reported in one place. The flywheel is the point: affiliate content warms the audience, LIVE converts it at the highest AOV, every broadcast is clipped into an always-on content library, winning hooks become ad creative, and paid fills the rooms.

A daily LIVE engine, not occasional broadcasts. Daily lives compound the baseline and produced showcase events spike it. That cadence is how the record happened: $2.7m, over £2m, in a single 14-hour LIVE with P.Louise, the largest single LIVE in TikTok Shop history and the reason Forbes and BBC News came to look at how it was done.

A weekly trading rhythm. We trade the channel the way a retailer trades a shop window: a new theme every week, a bundle drop to match, offers refreshed so urgency stays real rather than recycled, and a scorecard for every broadcast covering ERR, AVD, CTR and GMV per hour. We sell at RRP, matched to DTC and retail, and create the reason to buy in-platform through value rather than discount, because the first price an audience sees becomes the price it expects to pay.

Owned infrastructure. Purpose-built studios in London and Manchester, and a managed roster of 34 trained, product-certified hosts who sell the routine, not the discount. Infrastructure is hard to fake and easy to verify, which is why we keep inviting prospective clients to visit a broadcast.

Proof at every scale. £100m+ GMV managed across 80+ brands, from DTC natives like Glow For It and AKT London to four Unilever brands run as a single partner and a group-level showcase relationship with L'Oréal Groupe. The numbers, the names and the methods are all documented in our work, and the team and story behind them in about somerce.

Apply the six evaluation tests from section 2 to us as hard as you would to anyone. That is what they are for.

8. Frequently asked questions

What does a TikTok Shop agency do?
Some or all of the commerce channel, run for you: shop operations and listings, affiliate and creator management, TikTok LIVE shopping, organic content and paid media, plus the strategy and reporting that connect them. Full-service agencies like somerce run all of it as one trading engine, because the levers compound: affiliate content warms the audience, LIVE converts it at the highest AOV, and paid fills the rooms.
How much does a TikTok Shop agency cost in the UK?
There is no single price because there is no single scope. UK engagements are typically a monthly retainer, a commission on managed GMV, or a hybrid, with market retainers running from roughly £2k a month for a narrow single-discipline scope to £15k+ for a full trading operation with daily studio LIVE. Compare proposals on deliverables and expected GMV impact, not the fee line. Our agency cost guide goes deeper.
How do I verify an agency's results?
Ask for GMV managed, with named case studies and numbers rather than logo walls, and ask how those figures reconcile with TikTok Shop seller analytics. Ask who exactly would run your account, whether the agency owns its studios, and whether you can visit a broadcast. Real infrastructure and real client numbers are easy to show and hard to fake; vagueness on either is your answer.
Do I need an agency to sell on TikTok Shop?
No, and an honest agency will say so. Brands trading under roughly £10k a month, or still pre-launch, are usually better off proving demand with founder-led content and a small affiliate programme first. An agency earns its keep when the channel works and the constraint is capacity: more LIVE hours, a bigger managed community, weekly offer planning and paid amplification. Our readiness scorecard will tell you which side you are on.
How long before an agency delivers results?
TikTok Shop rewards consistency, so the honest picture is a build, not a switch. The first weeks go on offer architecture, listings, affiliate recruitment and standing up a LIVE cadence, and revenue compounds from there as the algorithm and audience learn the rhythm. Be suspicious of anyone guaranteeing GMV before they have seen your margins, stock position and audience.
What is TikTok LIVE shopping and does my brand need it?
Selling in real time on a broadcast, with products pinned to an in-stream basket. It typically converts at the highest AOV of any TikTok Shop format, and it scales: we set the platform's single-LIVE record at $2.7m, over £2m, in one 14-hour broadcast with P.Louise. Most brands should build towards a daily cadence with produced showcase events for the peaks, which is exactly what our TikTok LIVE service does.
Should I pay a retainer or a commission on GMV?
Whichever funds the work your shop actually needs. Retainers buy guaranteed resource, which suits shops that still need building. Commission aligns incentives but needs enough GMV to fund a proper team, or the account gets quietly under-resourced. Hybrids, a lower base plus performance commission, are the most common UK structure for good reason. The full comparison is in our cost guide.
What UK rules apply to TikTok Shop marketing?
Three areas matter most. Advertising: under the ASA's CAP Code, paid and incentivised creator content must be obviously identifiable as advertising, with clear labels such as #ad. Data: UK GDPR applies to any lead or customer data you capture, so collect only what you need, say what you will do with it, and honour deletion requests. Listings: describe products truthfully and substantiate claims before they go live. A serious agency hard-wires all three into its briefs.
What makes somerce different from other UK TikTok Shop agencies?
Focus and proof. TikTok Shop is all we do: £100m+ GMV managed across 80+ brands, owned studios in London and Manchester, 34 trained hosts on a managed roster and daily LIVE engines for clients from DTC natives to Unilever and L'Oréal Groupe brands.
