how to sell on tiktok live.

Every LIVE is a funnel, and the brands winning on TikTok Shop treat it like one. This is the complete playbook we run in the rooms we broadcast from every single day: two formats, one weekly trading rhythm, and hosts trained to sell the routine, not the product.

Most brands treat TikTok LIVE as an event. They go live when there is a launch, a sale or a spare afternoon, then wonder why the room never fills. The brands that win treat LIVE as a trading channel: a shop window that opens on schedule, changes every week and is staffed by people trained to sell. That shift in mindset, from event to engine, is the whole playbook. Everything below is how we run it inside our TikTok LIVE service, proven at the very top of the platform.

Run two formats, on one calendar

A serious LIVE programme runs two formats in parallel, and they do different jobs. Daily lives build the audience. Showcases drive the peaks.

Daily LIVE: the always-on engine

Daily lives are the baseline. They run 40 to 80 hours a month in fixed, habit-building slots, typically three to four hours per session with a single camera, a themed backdrop and one host at a time drawn from a trusted roster of three or four. Consistency is the point: fixed slots build a habit for the audience and a signal for the algorithm. The strongest brand rooms on UK TikTok Shop run 50 to 60 lives a month.

Daily lives are also where everything gets tested: bundles, hooks, price points and hosts, all read in real time. On GMV per hour, a well-run daily engine should trade at around £300 per hour in month one and build to £600 per hour by month six as the audience habit compounds.

Showcase LIVE: the tentpole moments

Showcases are fully produced broadcasts built around launches, Super Brand Days and campaign moments. Expect one a month, running six to twelve hours, with up to three cameras, a moderator, a custom set build, and a hero host supported by guests. They carry the exclusive bundles, the biggest offers and the mass gifts with purchase, backed by full pre-heat and paid amplification. A showcase should target £4,000+ per hour, with the biggest events clearing £20,000+ per hour. This is the format that set the single-LIVE world record with P.Louise: $2.7m of GMV in one broadcast, 40 million impressions, and audience sentiment far above the beauty LIVE average. The calendar runs both. Daily lives compound the baseline, showcases spike it. One team, one plan, one report.

Trade the room like a retailer trades a shop window

TikTok LIVE rewards newness. A room that looks the same two weeks running stops earning the stop in the feed, so we trade the channel the way a retailer trades a window display, on a weekly rhythm with four moves:

  1. New theme, every week. Planned against the trading calendar, seasonal moments and stock priorities, so the show always has a reason to exist this week.
  2. A bundle drop to match. New thematic bundles built from the core range, designed to lift average order value and trade through priority stock.
  3. Backdrop rotation. Physical dressing and digital environments switch with the theme. Rotating sets are the single highest enter-room-rate uplift we see, daily, and digital backdrops swap in seconds.
  4. Offers refreshed. Gifts with purchase, spend thresholds and live-only mechanics are re-cut weekly, keeping urgency real rather than recycled.

This is the same weekly engine that keeps the biggest beauty rooms in the UK the most-watched on the platform. The viewer never sees the same LIVE twice, which is exactly what TikTok rewards.

The 15-minute round

Within each show, the strongest trading mechanic we run is the 15-minute round. Break the broadcast into quarter-hour segments: buy anything within the round and you are in the draw to win a prize worth £100 or more, announced live before the next round starts. Each round follows the same beat: offer drop, demos, last call, winner announced. One hour on air becomes four distinct reasons to buy now.

The mechanic is built for basket size as much as urgency. Because buying anything enters the draw, the natural move is to build a basket worth entering with, so the round quietly sells the bundle. In the first trading weeks we test round length, prize value and frequency, then lock the winning formula. Run it inside TikTok LIVE and UK promotion rules, announced and fulfilled transparently on air.

Sell the routine, not the product

The commercial ceiling of a LIVE is set by what you are selling, and single products set it low. Education is what LIVE does that short-form cannot: a host has time to explain ingredients, demonstrate results and walk a viewer through a full routine. A trained host walking a viewer from a £12 pad to a £90 routine is the whole commercial case in one sentence: same traffic, five times the basket.

That means the offer architecture matters as much as the show. Routine builders that put the full regime in one basket. Live-exclusive bundles at full price outside the room and real value inside it, tiered across entry, mid and hero price points. Gift-with-purchase layering on top of the bundle. Giveaways with a spend threshold that nudge shoppers over the line. Every bundle is designed against one number: AOV.

And hold the line on price integrity. The conversion hierarchy runs bundle first, then gift with purchase, then buy-more-save-more, with the flash sale as a last resort, because every flash sale trains your audience to wait. Real urgency converts. Desperate urgency damages.

Host craft decides the ceiling

Nothing on this page works with a generalist reading a run sheet. Hosts are trained, not found, which is why we built a dedicated host and talent engine. The training path has four steps: product immersion and certification on the full SKU list, so no host goes live without passing; conversion craft, covering AOV laddering, bundle framing, objection handling and urgency that protects price integrity; supervised trial shifts scored on live scorecards; and finally a place on an exclusive roster. Only the converters keep the slots.

Behind every host sits structure: call scripts written for every product and bundle, each with multiple sales angles, live in the room. These scripts are the single biggest driver of conversion we see. And on every broadcast there is a full-time moderator and a live strategist, driving performance in real time and holding hosts to the plan. Composed hosts with genuine reasons to buy convert harder than frantic ones. Confidence sells.

Plan, promote, produce, report

Operationally, every LIVE runs through the same four phases.

The reporting layer deserves its own deep dive, because four numbers decide whether any LIVE wins or loses. We broke them down in the four metrics that decide every TikTok LIVE.

Selling on TikTok LIVE is not a trick or a temperament. It is a trading discipline: two formats, a weekly rhythm, urgency that resets every quarter hour, education that builds the basket, and hosts who know the products cold. Run it consistently and the room compounds.

Frequently asked questions

How long should each LIVE be?
Three to four hours for a daily trading session. Shorter than two hours and the algorithm barely samples the room before you close; the best conversion windows often open after the first hour. Showcase events run longer, six to twelve hours, because they are built as tentpole moments with traffic waves booked across the day.
How often should a brand go live?
Daily, in fixed slots, is the model the strongest rooms run: 40 to 80 hours a month, with the top UK brand rooms broadcasting 50 to 60 times a month. If daily is not realistic yet, start with three fixed slots a week and hold them religiously. Consistency in the calendar is worth more than any single brilliant show, because the habit and the algorithm signal both compound.
Can I run LIVEs solo, or do I need a team?
You can start solo, but hosting, producing and moderating are three different jobs, and rooms convert measurably better when they are split. The professional minimum is a trained host on camera, a producer running offers, pins and the run of show, and a moderator in the comments. That is the crew we field on every broadcast, with a live strategist reading the numbers per minute on bigger shows.
